Birth chart
The natal chart (or birth chart) is the map of the sky calculated for the moment and place of a person s birth. It is the main tool of Western astrology and shows the positions of the Sun, the Moon, the planets and the sensitive points in the twelve astrological houses and twelve zodiac signs.
What it contains
The circular chart shows the ascendant (cusp of the first house, on the left), the descendant (cusp of the seventh, on the right), the midheaven (MC, cusp of the tenth, at the top), the imum coeli (IC, cusp of the fourth, at the bottom), the twelve houses, the positions of the ten planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) and the aspects (angular relationship lines).
How it is interpreted
A complete reading proceeds in several steps: basic profile (Sun, Moon, ascendant), concentrations of planets (stellium), dominant aspects, distribution between houses and signs, any special points (lunar nodes, part of fortune, Lilith). There is no "perfect chart": every configuration has gifts and challenges.
FAQ
Are natal chart and birth chart the same?
Yes, they are synonymous. It is also called natal horoscope.
Do I need to know the exact time?
Yes. Without the time, the ascendant, houses and lunar sign may be inaccurate.
Does it change over time?
No, the natal chart is fixed. What change are the transits (planets in the sky today compared to your birth map).
