Planets
In astrology, the "planets" include the Sun and the Moon (which astronomically are a star and a satellite) and the eight planets traditionally considered: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. Each has specific symbolic qualities and rules one or more signs of the zodiac.
Planets and qualities
Sun: identity, will, vital drive. Moon: emotions, habits, needs. Mercury: thought, speech. Venus: love, beauty, values. Mars: action, sexuality, aggression. Jupiter: expansion, fortune, confidence. Saturn: limits, responsibility, structure. Uranus: change, freedom. Neptune: ideals, dream, dissolution. Pluto: transformation, deep power.
Fast and slow planets
Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars are "fast" (they cross the signs in short periods) and describe personal themes. Jupiter and Saturn are of medium speed and describe lighter generational themes. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are "slow" (one spends years in a sign) and describe themes of entire generations.
