Natal chart
The natal chart is the map of the sky calculated for the moment and place of birth. It is synonymous with "birth chart" and "natal horoscope": these terms are interchangeable. It shows the positions of the Sun, the Moon, the planets and the sensitive points in the twelve astrological houses and the twelve zodiacal signs.
What it contains
The circular chart includes: ascendant (on the left), descendant (on the right), midheaven (at the top), nadir (at the bottom); twelve houses; positions of the ten planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto); aspects (lines of angular relation). Some charts also include lunar nodes, Part of Fortune, Lilith, Chiron.
What it is for
It is the fundamental tool of astrological self-exploration: it describes tendencies, talents and basic symbolic challenges. From it one derives readings on a single aspect (career, love, health) and applies transits to read the present moment. It is not a fixed destiny: it is a map of potentials.
FAQ
Do I need to know the exact birth time?
Yes. Without the time, ascendant, houses and moon sign can be imprecise. The official birth certificate is the most reliable source.
Does it change over time?
No. The natal chart is fixed. What changes are the transits, that is the planets currently in positions of the sky relative to your birth map.
Is it the same as a "reduced natal chart"?
The reduced natal chart considers only the three main elements (Sun, Moon, ascendant). The complete natal chart includes everything.
