The soul number, or motivation number, is obtained by summing the numerical value of the vowels only of the full name, reduced to the final number between 1 and 9 (or master numbers 11, 22, 33). It describes your deep needs, inner motivations and what gives you meaning. It is often called "soul urge number" in the Anglo-Saxon tradition.
Calculation logic
Vowels (A, E, I, O, U; Y is considered a vowel only when not followed by another vowel) represent in old Kabbalistic and theosophical tradition breath, inner voice, spiritual essence. Consonants form the visible structure, vowels animate it: hence vowels are associated with the soul. Sum using the Pythagorean table (A 1, E 5, I 9, O 6, U 3) and reduce to the final number.
Meaning of numbers
1 need for independence, self-realization. 2 need for harmonious relationships, support, peace. 3 need for creative expression and lightness. 4 need for stability, security, order. 5 need for freedom, variety, experiences. 6 need for love, family, beauty, care. 7 need for knowledge, search, fertile solitude. 8 need for power, achievement, recognition. 9 need to serve a greater ideal. 11 need to bring vision and inspiration. 22 need to build something lasting for others. 33 need to heal and teach.
How to use online
Enter your full name. The tool extracts the vowels, sums the values, reduces and returns the soul number with a brief reading: what moves you, what environments make you feel at home, what inner obstacles you often meet.
FAQ
Does Y count?
It depends on the school. Most followed rule: Y counts as a vowel when not followed by another vowel (e.g. "Mary" yes, "Yara" no).
What if I have two names?
The classical tradition sums all vowels of all first and last names. Some authors use only the first everyday name. You can try both for comparison.
Is it the "true" self?
It is a symbolic indicator of your deep needs. It does not replace a self-knowledge path with other tools (analysis, meditation, therapy, personal writing).
