Three-card spread
The three-card spread is the most widespread reading layout in cartomancy. Three cards are drawn from the deck and interpreted in precise positions: past-present-future, situation-obstacle-advice, mind-heart-action, or following other schools.
Most used schemes
Past-present-future: useful to read the evolution of a theme over time. Situation-obstacle-advice: ideal for growth or decision consultations. Mind-heart-action: helps to see whether thoughts, feelings and actions are aligned. You-the other-relationship: for couple readings. Tarotsi s tool mainly uses the situation-obstacle-perspective version.
How to interpret
First read each card in its position, then compose the story of the three together. Often the meaning emerges precisely from the narrative: a bright card between two difficult ones says something different from three bright cards together. Practice and experience refine the ability to read the three as a single scene.
FAQ
What is the minimum number of cards needed?
It can also be done with one card (card of the day). The three-card spread is the minimum for a "narrative" reading.
Should it always be drawn left to right?
Yes, by convention. Positions should be defined before the draw.
Is it good for beginners?
Yes, it is the most recommended entry point. For more complex spreads (Celtic Cross, Grand Tableau) more practice is needed.
