Palm reading
Palmistry is the modern version of chiromancy: the reading of the palm of the hand to draw indications about personality and life path. It includes both the interpretation of the main lines and the study of the shape of the hand and fingers, the palmar mounts and the minor signs.
Difference with traditional chiromancy
The terms are often used as synonyms. "Chiromancy" indicates the ancient traditional practice; "palmistry" has spread in the Anglo-Saxon world with the term palmistry and presents itself as a more "psychological" version, less predictive and more oriented to character. The substance is similar.
What is analysed
Main lines (life, heart, head, destiny) and secondary ones (marriage, health, travel, fortune). Shape of the hand (square, conical, spatulate, elongated) and of the fingers (length, knots, shape of the nails). Palmar mounts (seven mounts associated with planets). Special signs (stars, crosses, islands, rings) interpreted as significant anomalies.

Is it scientific?
No. There is no evidence of a correlation between the lines of the hand and personality or life events.
Which hand should be read?
Tradition: the left shows "birth potential", the right shows how it has been lived (reversed for left-handers).
Are fingerprints palmistry?
Dactyloscopy (fingerprints) is a different discipline: a science used in forensic identification. It is not palmistry.
