Akashic records

The Akashic record (or "Akashic annals") is, in theosophical doctrines and contemporary spirituality, the alleged non-physical "deposit" of all experiences, thoughts and events that have occurred in the universe. The term derives from the Sanskrit akasha, "ether, cosmic space". It is an esoteric concept, not a scientific one.

Origin of the concept

The notion of akasha as the "primordial ether" that records everything dates back to Indian traditions (Sankhya, yoga). The modern term "Akashic Records" was systematized by Helena Blavatsky in late nineteenth-century theosophy and then popularized by Charles Leadbeater, Edgar Cayce and several New Age authors of the 20th century.

Practices and claims

Practitioners from various New Age fields claim to "consult" the Akashic record through meditation, regressions or specific practices to obtain information about past lives, health, spiritual mission. There is no scientific evidence of these consultations. Their value remains subjective and symbolic.

FAQ

Do they really exist?

Not in a scientific sense. They are an esoteric concept useful as a metaphor for "universal memory", not as a real database.

Can I access them?

The proposed practices are subjective: they produce imaginative material that some consider authentic, others read as inner projection.

Are they linked to karma?

In the theosophical view, yes: the Akashic annals would preserve the trace of the karmic actions of a soul across successive lives.
